Macagone retired sound at the age of 10 in March of 2021. This amazing fellow is multiple stakes placed and earned in excess of $650,000. Macagone’s retirement is an amazing story as it was facilitated by his former exercise rider and a posse of folks from the racetrack. Read the details in this article from the Thoroughbred Daily News. He has enjoyed more than a year downtime on the farm and is now available for adoption. Macagone is not for a beginner. He is strong and brave and sound for any discipline.

THE ICEMAN COMMETH

The Iceman Commeth came to the Foundation as a three year old with a bowed tendon and was adopted by the Adirondack Equine Assisted Psychotherapy program. Shannon, founder and director of AEAP generously took on the responsibility and expense of rehabbing Ice’s tendon and he is now sound and happy.

DEPUTY FLAG

Deputy Flag (aka Desi) was surrendered to the Foundation with significant issues with his right front fetlock. It was clear that he would require more than rest to be sound and comfortable enough to have a happy retirement. With the help of his adopter, Adirondack Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and the generous donations of many, many kind donors, Desi received a fetlock arthodesis procedure at the Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Saratoga. Eight months later, Desi is still healing but his prospects are excellent for a pasture sound life. He is already starting to participate in the psychotherapy program and loves his new easy, low key job!

The Big Lebanese

The Big Lebanese aka Lebo had a long road to recovery after incurring a coffin bone fracture at the track. Lebo had a year of rehabilitation before he was pronounced ready for his next phase of rehab. After a few rides, he showed us he was ready to move on to a forever home. We are pleased that in May 2021, he found a terrific home with Karrisa. He will be enjoying being a companion to her senior gelding and a trail horse for Karrisa on her family’s farm!

My Centurion

This was our first opportunity to help a retired racehorse in need! My Centurion, a 13 year old off track thoroughbred (OTTB), has been provided for by his owner throughout his retirement. Due to a change in circumstances, his owner was no longer able to keep up with this responsibility. The Foundation, working with Haven Oaks Farm, was able to find a horse rescue willing to take Centurion for retraining for a new career and a new home. Haven Oaks Farm arranged to have Centurion gelded (castrated) and contributed to his recovery, including medications, and started some light schooling with lunging and round pen exercise. The Foundation covered the expense of transporting Centurion to his new home. We owe a huge thanks to Phoenix Rising Equine Rescue at Spruce Meadow Farm in Clarence, NY for being willing to provide this opportunity for Centurion! We wish him the best of luck!
